Intro

 (I'll keep this brief and add more detail later) The reason this site exists is to document my progress as I simultaneously attempt to reach two goals: 1) Learn to (properly) shoot a basketball 2) Dunk a basketball Context: I'm a 42-year-old, reasonably fit but overweight, generally unathletic (white) male. I stopped playing basketball nine years ago after 20 years of intermittent playing. I was never a good shooter, and the closest I ever got to dunking was when I was 17 and got a fingertip to a bent rim. Dunk probability: low. Check my stats: Current vertical leap (with one step): 17.5 inches Required to reach rim: 28 inches. Required to dunk: around 35 inches So that's adding 11.5 inches to my jump just to reach the rim, and 18.5 to actually. Not looking good. Still, dunking is a goal worth aiming for. Even if I fail, the training will still make me a better athlete. Specific goals: dunking is easy to quantify. It's simple pass/fail: did I dunk or not? Shooting is m
